Tokyo Vice
1999, Tokyo: Jake Adelstein (Ansel Elgort), an idealistic young journalist from Missouri, succeeds in becoming the first foreigner to work on a major newspaper in Japan, the Meicho Shimbun. He joins the crime beat and quickly finds himself embroiled in the three very different spheres of the Japanese underworld: working with the grizzled police officer Detective Katagiri (Ken Watanabe); bonding with his fellow American runaway Samantha (Rachel Keller), a glamorous hostess; and befriending the stoic Yakuza foot-soldier Sato (Show Kasamatsu).
Based on a true story, TOKYO VICE is a (HBO) Max crime drama series that was created by Tony Award-winning playwright J.T. Rogers, with episodes directed by Michael Mann, Alan Poul, Josef Wladyka, and Hikari.
